- Results publication
-
The results shown on this website come from the central database in which all election results are stored.
This database carries out all necessary calculations such as calculating the percentage, the seat distribution and the extrapolation of the results from the administrative Parliaments up to the highest level (e.g. the State).
New results are continuously fed into the database. As soon as changes occur, the pages on this website are updated to show these new results as quickly as possible. This means that you are on the front line of knowing the election result.
The results of the European elections may only be published after 11 pm.
- Navigation
-
The different methods for navigating this website are described below.
The start page for an election has a direct link to the list results of all possible levels and straight away you will find an indication of the count status alongside each entity (e.g. administrative district).
Another handy tool is the geographic map in the left-hand panel. Use this map to open the list result for the area that you have selected.
The left-hand panel also contains direct links to the other data on this website about the elections of 14 May 2014, such as the preferential votes or the vote recording status.
Another navigation method is the “crumb trail” at the top of the page. This makes it easy to go just one level higher in the navigation structure, up to the start page of this election website.
Example of the crumb trail and tabs
The tabs at the top of the crumb trail lead you simply to another election. As a last tool there are, depending on the page, the dropdown boxes that allow you to make an immediate choice from the different options, such as districts, constituencies or parties.
- Entities
-
On this site the entities are the different sub-classifications that are necessary for proper organisation of the elections. These can be administrative districts, constituencies (provincial or district), electoral colleges, and so on. You can find the results of the different entities on this site.
The results from individual counting offices are not available however.
- List Results
-
These pages show the number of votes, the percentage and the number of seats (if applicable) that the different parties have achieved. The parties are sorted by vote number. The party with the lowest vote number comes at the top.
These results are available for all levels of the different elections. The following table displays the available levels for the different elections :
From the level of an electoral college (Europe) or constituency (Parliaments) upwards, you can see how many seats a party has achieved in the last column.
If the icon appears next to a list, you can click it to go to the preferential votes for that party. This icon only appears if preferential votes exist on the level displayed.
The results are available in graphs or tables. You can easily switch between the results in graph or table form by clicking the ‘Graphic representation’ or ‘In Figures’ button.
At the district level, when the results are complete, the link 'Municipalities results' appears to consult the results of the municipalities of this district.
At the district level, when the results are final, the link appears to download the signed PV.
If you do not know the administrative district to which your municipality belongs, you can always search via the ‘Search municipality’ function. Here you will find an alphabetic list of all municipalities containing an indication of the district to which they belong and a direct link to the results for the different elections.
As with all dynamic pages these pages will also be updated as soon as new data come in.
- Candidate lists
-
The different lists containing the candidates are available from the definitif arrest of lists. The preferential votes are also published on these candidate list pages.
There are three ways to access these pages.
The first way can be used if you know the candidate’s name. Click the ‘Candidate search’ function in the left-hand panel to access the page containing an alphabetic list of all candidates. Here you will immediately see the list and constituency where the candidate appears, and there is a link to the preferential votes for this candidate’s party.
The overview page has a direct link to the preferential votes for all available levels. The party with the lowest vote number in the chosen entity is displayed. Using the choice list you can easily go now to the preferential votes for another party in the same entity.
The third way is to navigate first via the ‘List results’ to the constituency of your choice. Here you will find next to the name of a party the icon that will take you to the preferential votes for the chosen party.
- Preferential votes
-
These pages display the preferential votes for a party, who was elected and the ranking of the substitutes (column IV).
If you are not on the level where the lists are drawn up, only the number of preferential votes will be displayed (e.g. at administrative district level). The following table shows the levels on which preferential votes can be found (N) and the level at which the lists are drawn up (L):
If you want to know who was elected for the European Parliament, you have to go to the level (N-L), which is the electoral college.
The count status just above the results shows how many administrative districts within the current entity have already had preferential votes received.
The column containing the ‘%’ displays the relationship between the number of preferential votes obtained for the candidate and the total number of preferential votes obtained by all candidates from the same list.
Via the dropdown boxes you can see the result of another entity, of another list or you can go back to the overview page.
The overview page has a direct link to the preferential votes from all available levels. The party with the lowest vote number in the chosen entity is displayed.
As with all dynamic pages these pages will also be updated as soon as new data come in.
Note that there are no substitutes for elections of the German Community Parliament and the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region.
- Start page
-
This dynamic page immediately shows which administrative districts have passed on new results, and contains direct links to the results from all different entities.
- Seat distribution
-
This page shows the seat distribution, the difference in seats from previous elections and the male/female distribution of those elected.
The seat calculation is only done once sufficient results have come in to enable an accurate estimate.
Only the parties that achieve a seat in the current election will be displayed.
The male/female distribution is calculated on the titulars who are elected. The distribution therefore takes no account of substitutes who have obtained a mandate in place of a titular.
As is the case with all dynamic pages this page is also updated as soon as new data come in.
- Most popular candidates
-
Here you will find the ranking of the 50 most popular candidates. The candidates are ranked by the highest number of preferential votes obtained or by the highest popularity in their election area (%).
This ranking is made on different levels that you can access via the dropdown box :
Note that this ranking is already made up before the vote recording is complete.
The last column shows the location where the candidate was proposed.
These pages are updated as soon as new data come in.
- Municipality search
-
You will find below an alphabetic list of the municipalities and the administrative districts to which they belong. The municipalities are split up by first letter.
The icons are a link to the results from the administrative district for the elections concerned.
- Search a candidate
-
You will find below an alphabetic list of all candidates. Click the name of the candidate to find his/her preferential votes. The table also designates the election for which and location in which the candidate was proposed.
Click the first letter for a candidate to open the correct page.
The following data are displayed for each candidate :
• The name (clicking on the name takes you to the preferential votes for his party or location)
• The gender (Man or Woman)
• The election for which the person was proposed (via an icon from the table above)
• The list on which the candidate was proposed
• Whether the person is a Titular (T) or a substitute (O)
• The location where the candidate was proposed. - Vote recording status
-
These pages display the status of vote recording, either via a report or else in detail per administrative district.
The map is the simplest way to get a report quickly. Each administrative district is coloured in as required by the vote recording there.
The summary page shows per province or per constituency when the latest results came in and how much has already been counted.
The website shows, for each entity, information about the last update of the results using asterisk *. If the entity doesn’t show an asterisk, it means that the results have not been updated in the last 30 minutes.
• * = updated information < 30 min
• ** = updated information < 20 min
• ***= updated information < 10 min
In addition there are pages showing per administrative district how much has already been counted and when the latest results for that administrative district came in. Each of these pages displays different administrative districts:
• All districts: This page displays all districts, whether or not the results from these are known.
• Counted districts: This page only displays the fully counted districts.
• Districts without results: This page only displays the districts from which no results have come in yet.
• Districts with partial results: This page only displays the districts that have passed on partial results.
• Districts with new results during the last 30 minutes: This page displays the districts that have passed on new results in the last 30 minutes.
As with all dynamic pages these pages will also be updated as soon as new data comes in.
